Who's Left to Cheer for in Sports

Who’s left?

With the latest allegations of performance enhancing drug being used by one of our superstars, the list is dwindling.

The latest report is that cyclist and all-American icon Lance Armstrong used PED’s while winning his seven Tour de France titles.

That comes just days after the cloud of suspicion has risen over Tiger Woods.
Just think about sports icons over the past decade or so.

How many of them have not been tainted.

From Roger Clemens to Barry Bonds to Mark McGwire to Sammy Sosa, nobody is safe.

What do we remember over the past 15 years?

We awed at the home runs McGwire and Sosa hit during their battle. Bonds was the most feared hitter in the league. Clemens was one of the most dominating and enduring pitchers.

On the golf course, Woods crushed people. We marveled at his shots and changed the game.

As for Armstrong, he dominated a sport.

What can we believe?

For the record, Woods and Armstrong have not tested positive, nor have they admitted to using PEDs. But in an anonymous poll by ESPN, 25 percent of PGA golfers said they think Woods is dirty.

Now, Armstrong’s teammates are coming out and saying he not only used them, but encouraged others to use them also.

Armstrong and Woods may not be guilty in any court, but in the court of public opinion, his imaged has been tainted.

These athletes have ruined sports. For what we once cheered, now we look twice at any athlete that does something special.

We have all become cynical about what we are watching.

It’s not fair to the athletes that are clean and doing great things. If you break a record, then you better bring a urine sample to test after crossing home plate. It’s just the world we live in now.

How many times has an athlete denied using them and then recanted later.

Now there are whispers of use in the NBA.

I don’t care and I don’t want to know about it.

From this point of view, just make them all legal. Why not? Athletes are going to look for an edge anyway. If they want to tear up their bodies to achieve their dreams, don’t ask me to shed a tear later. They made the choice and must pay the consequences.

When watching any sport now, who’s left to root for?
