Why the United States Really Is Great
Maybe this article is a little unusual, because its author is not American. Nevertheless, the view from the outside sometimes is no less objective than from the inside. I’m also sure that a lot of people, who used to criticize the U.S. 24 hours, will disagree with this point of view. It is their right. Now it is very popular to criticize USA in speeches and envy of this country in the mind. I only express my own point of view, backed by my experience as a journalist writing in English.
Since I'm writing about sports in the international format, then I’m getting in touch with people from different countries. Recently, the country where I live, Republic of Moldova, decided to create a figure skating federation. I’m actively involved in helping to create this new sport organization in Moldova and in its development. Since figure skating in Moldova has never been, for the beginning of the development and promotion of this sport the international support is important.
A few weeks ago I had to distribute a press release about the children's competitions, which carries one Moldavian skating club. Since my native language is Russian, the first thing I decided to do was contacting with my skating journalism colleagues from Russia and Ukraine. I will not mention what these web sources were. What is more important is the attitude. These skating sources were obviously not interested in that sporting event as I didn’t get any answer, even the shortest.
You know, I was not surprised. This is typical for many countries in general and for countries of the former Soviet Union in particular. Now I mean not only sports. In my opinion, the problems of these countries are largely due to the relations to each other at the level of ordinary people.
