World Golf Championships - Cadillac Championship Preview & Fantasy Picks
When a tournament takes place in Miami at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral, you have peoples attention. When it's the World Golf Championships- Cadillac Championship, people get excited. When you take the top 21 players in the world and put them together in groups of three, you create a buzz that is talked about throughout the world.
(Tiger Woods & Phil Mickelson will play with Graeme McDowell the first two rounds)
Some are calling it the greatest pairings for any one event in the history of golf. While Martin Kaymer is currently ranked #1 in the world, players are nipping at his heals to take over that spot. The WGC- Cadillac Championship has taken full advantage of this and paired the top players in the world together for the first two rounds. The result? A promise to see the kind of golf reserved only for major championships.
Three Groups to Watch at the WGC- Cadillac Championship
I have written down no less than eight groups to watch when play begins on Thursday and have narrowed it down to my top three. Here are the groups I will be watching:
3. Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood, & Luke Donald: The top three players in the world are paired together. Why wouldn't I watch? Kaymer took over the worlds #1 ranking with a 2nd place finish at the WGC- Accenture Match Play Championship just two weeks ago. His moving up means Lee Westwood has moved back to number two spot. A win this weekend and Westwood can have the top honor and silence a lot of his critics. Luke Donald moved into 3rd in the official world golf rankings when he defeated Martin Kaymer to win the Accenture Match Play Championship. Don't think Kaymer has forgotten about this. While the battle to win this event is on, these players know there is something bigger at stake.
2. Ian Poulter, Bubba Watson, & Dustin Johnson: Dustin Johnson had high expectations in 2011 after a great 2010. He started off the year with two top 10's but has struggled since. I'm hoping this week he shows up in 2010 form. Ian Poulter enjoyed a couple of wins last year (one on each Tour) and is one of the most fierce competitors in golf. You can bet he's excited to play with these two young guys and I think he will steal the show. I've made him my pick to win this week. I am yet to hear anyone say they don't like Bubba Watson. He earned his first win in 2010 and already has a win in 2011. He takes chances and entertains the crowds. While he may not do it this week, I expect him to win again in 2011.
