2) Bart Palaszewski
The Pole scored an impressive knockout win over Tyson Griffin. He’ll have a tough test in Japan in Hatsu Hioki.
3) Tyson Griffin
After a good start at featherweight, Griffin was knocked out by Palaszewski. Griffin was a top prospect in the league of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, but has not been able to get momentum towards a title shot.
4) Kenny Florian (“KenFlo”)
Florian was unable to win the title against Jose Aldo in their spirited match. KenFlo is going back to lightweight.
5) Manny Gamburyan (“The Anvil”)
It looks like the Gamburyan-Diego Nunes match that was to take place several months ago will finally take place at UFC 141.
6) Diego Nunes (“The Gun”)
Nunes is healthy now and will take on Manny Gamburyan.
7) Hatsu Hioki
It wasn’t pretty, but Hioki did win his UFC debut against the always dangerous George Roop. Whether or not he can really restore some of the glory of Japan remains to be seen. Hioki will fight in front of a home crowd against Bart Palaszewski.
8) Dustin Poirier
Poirier was impressive at UFC on FOX, convincingly beating the dangerous Pablo Garza. Next up is Erik Koch.
9) Chad Mendes (“Money”)
Beating some pretty tough guys and remaining undefeated means that Mendes will be getting the next title shot.
10) Chan Sung Jung (“The Korean Zombie”)
The fan favourite had a good 2011, getting revenge on Leonard Garcia and bad judges, then knocking out former title contender Mark Hominick in 7 seconds.
Bantamweight (135 pound limit)
1) Dominick Cruz
Cruz must be considered among the best champs in the world when you consider that no one is able to even lay a hand on him. Now he’ll get a chance to increase his marketability with a coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter.
2) Joseph Benavidez
Benavidez went to a split decision against Dominick Cruz. Now he’s been tapped to start things off in the flyweight division.
3) Urijah Faber (“The California Kid”)
Faber defeated Brian Bowles to secure a trilogy with Dominick Cruz. He will coach opposite Cruz on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter.
4) Brian Bowles
Bowles was unable to deal with Urijah Faber’s speed and power at UFC 139.
5) Scott Jorgensen (“Young Guns”)
Jorgensen defeated the veteran Jeff Curran in Curran’s return to the Octagon.
6) Demetrious Johnson (“Mighty Mouse”)
The Mouse is one of the 4 fighters who will kick off the UFC’s flyweight division.
