ESPN is reporting that the New York Yankees have just about finalized a deal that would send left-handed pitcher Cliff Lee to pinstripe heaven from the Seattle Mariners.

According to ESPN, the Mariners have been working diligently to move Lee but have come up against some road blocks. They have been chatting with the Rays, Twins, Rangers, Reds and other teams.

The Yankees could potentially be offering top prospect Jesus Montero, who is said to have tremendous potential as an offensive workhorse and could end up playing catcher or first base. Other components to the deal potentially include second base prospect David Adams and a third player could be added.

If pulled off, the Yankee rotation would be CC Sabathia, Lee, Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes and A.J. Burnett. This would mean that Javier Vazquez would become trade bait.

One thing for certain, according to the ESPN report, is that the discussion between the Yankees and Mariners hasn't included a negotiating window on a contract extension for Lee.

Ironically enough, Lee is scheduled to pitch against the Yankees on Friday night in Seattle.
