The anticipation for Michael Vick and the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles is drawing all sorts of comparisons and descriptors such as the “Miami Heat of the NFL,” “The Dream Team,” “New York Yankees Model,” and the “Collection of 1st Round Picks.”

So how do the 2011 Eagles compare to the 2007 New England Patriots?

As everyone knows, the Patriots were the last team to run the table and complete a perfect regular season at 16-0, only to lose to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl. Can the Eagles conceivably sweep the NFC East?

The Patriots faced a much weaker AFC East divisional schedule, as well as a very favorable non-conference schedule in 2007. The notion of the Eagles beating the Giants, Cowboys, and Redskins twice, plus dealing with the AFC East may put a halt to any talk of the 2011 Eagles going 16-0.

When you look at the Eagles, the team is built to win and win now! They have the ultimate weapons in offense and defense. The other aspect that this year’s Eagles have over the ’07 Patriots is depth.

The Patriots needed a healthy Tom Brady and Randy Moss to run the table. The Eagles, for the first time in recent memory, are not dependent on any one player to make or break their season. Certainly a healthy Michael Vick does make a difference, but now the Eagles have one of best #2 QB’s in the league in Vince Young. Statistics show that more often than not, a team is going to need to use their #2 QB in the midst of a Super Bowl run. It is a nice luxury to know that if Vick gets hurt or needs to come out for any reason, there is an experienced former #1 pick ready to step in and play.

The depth at the receiver position is utterly amazing! When everyone is healthy and ready to play, the Eagles have 5 legitimate big play threats in DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Steve Smith, Jason Avant, and Riley Cooper. There are no teams on the Eagles schedule with enough quality defensive backs to cover all of those weapons.
