Giants Win the Super Bowl
The New York Giants are football's 2012 champions after defeating the New England Patriots 21-17. A game played in typical Patriots-Giants fashion went down to the wire and saw Eli Manning crowned, once again, as the Super Bowl's Most Valuable Player.
Manning's numbers: 30/40, 296 yards and a touchdown came through in the clutch as he had done in the regular season. Especially in the fourth quarter.
Down by two points on their own 12 with 3:46 left on the clock and only one timeout left, Eli marched the Giants down the field. A drive that was set up by a 38 yard completion, finished with Ahmad Bradshaw crossing the end zone on his rear end with :57 seconds left in the game.
The Giants did not begin celebrating too soon as Tom Brady can make a drive out of nothing. After trying to march into Giants territory and heaving a hail mary into the end zone with :05 seconds left, it was time for New York to celebrate. The ball was tipped around, finally hitting the ground before Rob Gronkowski could make a play.
The Giants victory means a few things. First, they have now beaten the Pats twice in consecutive Super Bowl appearances. Secondly, they have beaten the Pats three out of the last four times the teams have met. And lastly, after many doubted it was possible, the Giants were able to defeat New England twice in a season.
However, after the Patriots took a 17-9 lead early in the third quarter, it seemed like the Giants could not figure out Tom Brady, at one point completed 14 consecutive passes. Brady was releasing the ball quickly, finding open players and not letting the Giants defensive front have a chance to touch him.
