It's been a wild pre-season for the NFL thus far this week. We heard the news of Peyton Manning being signed to the Denver Broncos, as well as David Garrard signing with the Miami Dolphins shortly afterwards. Now we are reminded of a 14 year career for Hines Ward with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a Wide Receiver, as he announced his retirement Tuesday at a Press Event.

Hines Ward was released from the Steelers in February 2012, and many wondered if he may continue his awesome career elsewhere in the NFL. Ward had these expressions about his retirement from the Steelers uniform;

"The city and this organization mean the world to me. So today, as sadly as it feels to me right now, I hope today will be a good day for everybody here, I don't want to play in any other uniform. The black and gold runs deep in me and I will remain a Steeler for life."

Hines Ward is a four-time Pro Bowl selection, the Steelers all-time leading receiver with exactly 1,000 receptions, which include 85 touchdown receptions and a grand total of 12,083 yards. he also is one of few to be named MVP at SuperBowl XL when he had a stellar performance leading the Steelers to victory with 123 yards receiving including 5 touchdowns.

Ward is happy to have had his whole career in Pittsburgh, and had these kind words to say to the fans and organization at his announcement which can viewed in video here.

"To my fans and Steeler nation: No words can express how much you mean to me. Today is what you mean to me. Thanks for all the love and support through the OTAs, mini camps, training camps, injuries, Super Bowls and the lockout, just through it all. You guys have given me the best years of my life and I will never forget that. Never."

We'll miss you Hines!
