NFL 2012: Eagles Mock Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2011 season. They were not very active in free agency and General Manager Howie Roseman has been spending a lot of extra time preparing for the 2012 NFL draft. The Eagles love to stockpile draft picks and they have 7 so far (barring trades) to begin the 3-day draft process.

Here are my predictions for what the Eagles will do with the picks:

1st Round – Pick 15
The conventional wisdom here says defensive lineman and I expect the Eagles to take a run stuffer to play alongside of Mike Patterson. I don’t like Dontari Poe here, simply because on film, he doesn’t make enough plays. My prediction is: Michael Brockers from LSU, 6’5” 322 pound athlete who can flat out be disruptive.

2nd Round – Pick 46
With this pick, the Eagles look to bolster a secondary that struggled last year. As they continue to look to trade Asante Samuel, I see them going cornerback with this pick. Josh Robinson from Central Florida is a 6’0” 200 pound athlete with speed to cover anybody in the league and size to help against the run. He is a great pick at this spot.

2nd Round – Pick 51
With this pick, the Eagles look for a player who can be a perennial starter at right tackle if Todd Herremans has to move back to guard. There is a rising young talent out there who matches what they are looking for: Bobby Massie from Ole Miss, a 6’6” 316 pound technician who fit in perfectly with the Eagles’ system.

3rd Round – Pick 88
With this pick, the Eagles go for depth on the offensive line. Howard Mudd only has one year left and the team must prepare for a more conventional offensive line in the future. I project: Ben Jones, from the University of Georgia. The 6’2” 303 pound lineman is a devastating run blocker who is big enough and strong enough to handle the pivot. If Jones is available here, the Eagles must take him. They went with a center late in last year’s draft and he ended up starting. However, Kelce is simply not big enough to survive in the NFC East for long.
