NFL Picks Week 3 - Page 3
Redskins (-3.5) at Rams
It should come as no surprise that, with somewhat of a porous defense and a rookie QB, St. Louis is going to have a difficult year. On the other hand, Washington has big expectations, what with McNabb over center. According to Sallie Boy, “The Rams defense makes Portis look good this week. Take Washington.” Okay, all the way.
Eagles (-3) at Jaguars
Coach Andy Reid flip-flops and Vick gets the start over Kolb. But Vick isn’t the only weapon for Philly. Running back McCoy had a career-best game last week. As for the Jags, we’re looking at David Garrard as QB, backed up by 38-year-old Todd Bouman. Benny Bagels says “Jacksonville ain’t got no chance.” Taking Eagles to cover.
Colts (-5.5) at Broncos
Frankie Nuts calls Peyton Manning a “touchdown-making machine”. Obviously, Denver’s defense will have their hands full. But to make matters worse, their DB Champ Bailey might not play at 100 percent, if he plays at all. So, can the Broncos win? “No,” Nuts says succinctly. Taking the Colts to cover.
Chargers (-5.5) at Seahawks
RB Ryan Matthews may have a gimpy ankle, but Philip Rivers seems ready to put the Bolts back into serious contention, passing last week for 3 TDs and more than 300 yards to help beat the Jags. Meanwhile, the Seahawks turned the ball over four times last week in a loss to Denver. Vinnie the Mooch says, “Pete Carroll got lucky in the first game, and came back to reality last week. He ain’t beatin the Chargers this week no-how.” I believe him. Taking the Chargers all the way.
Raiders at Cards (-4.5)
The Jason Campbell experiment in Oakland is over. Bruce Gradkowski will QB this Sunday, after leading the Raiders to a come-from-behind victory over St. Louis last week. Cheech notes that Oakland’s Darren McFadden “has been running wild, like he’s being chased by a doctor with a big needle.” I’m guessing that’s a good thing. Couple that with Arizona’s problem in stopping the run so far and it may be a long afternoon for the Cards. Beanie Wells will be back for Arizona, but according to Cheech: “That ain’t nearly enough.” Taking the Raiders here.
Jets at Dolphins (-1.5)
Despite last week’s win over New England, Mark Sanchez still hasn’t proven he’s ready for prime time. Not yet anyhow. And now, with the Braylon Edwards arrest as yet another distraction, he really has his work cut out for him this week against the Dolphins. Ex-Dolphin DE Jason Taylor will be fired up to beat his former team, but he’ll have to do it without superstar corner, Darrelle Revis, out with a bad hamstring. Meanwhile, the Miami defense doesn’t seem to be missing Taylor. They’ve given up a measly 20 points total in two games. Bobby-Big-Fingers says this is a game of defense and the Dolphins have the edge: “Did you see Miami’s defense stop Adrian Peterson cold last week? And with Revis out, the Jets got nobody to cover Brandon Marshall.” Taking the fish to cover.
