NFL Preseason Wrap Up: Philadelphia Eagles - Page 2
There is no question that Mudd has been a very successful line coach in the NFL. However, starting players in new positions in 4 out of the 5 offensive line spots is extremely difficult under normal circumstances, let alone in a year when the preparations have been so compressed from the lockout.
The expectations for the Eagles this season are nothing short of a Super Bowl. There will be little tolerance for any early struggles on the offensive line and this group will be under close watch. Unfortunately, there is no time to develop the cohesiveness amongst this group of 5. The mission is very clear – establish the run and protect the quarterback.
It will be very interesting to see this storyline develop throughout the season. It will also be very easy for fans to assess by watching whether or not Michael Vick is getting knocked to the turf and how much production there is in the running game. As with any championship team, it all starts up front. You must win the one-on-one battles in the trenches before you can ever take advantage of your offensive weapons.
The Eagles are looking to take a very unconventional path to the Super Bowl with a major o-line shake up. The ability of these 5 guys to come together quickly will be crucial.
