NFL Preview: Baltimore Ravens
The NFL Previews are back on Technorati! Due to the Lockout, we are going to go with 32 teams in the next 32 days. This is Day 5, and we are moving from the NFC North to the AFC North, and checking out the Baltimore Ravens.
The Baltimore Ravens had another successful season that ended in bitter defeat at the hands of their archrivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although a fixture on the playoff scene (four appearances in the past five seasons), each season has resulted in an exit by the eventual AFC Champion.
Can the Ravens be the eventual AFC Champion this year and get to the Super Bowl? Or will there be another disappointing year in Charm City? Let's take a closer look at Baltimore.
2010 Baltimore Ravens
2010 Record: 10-6 (lost AFC Divisional Playoffs)
Additions: WR Lee Evans (trade from Bills), WR James Hardy, FB Vonta Leach (Texans), S Bernard Pollard (Texans), TE Jonathan Stupar (Bills), RB Ricky Williams (Dolphins), TE Kris Wilson (Chargers)
Subtractions: QB Marc Bulger: UFA (retired), G Chris Chester (Redskins), NT Kelly Gregg, TE Todd Heap, S Dawan Landry (Jaguars), RB Willis McGahee (Broncos), WR Derrick Mason (Jets), RB Le'Ron McClain (Chiefs), WR Donte' Stallworth (Redskins), CB Fabian Washington (Saints), CB Josh Wilson (Redskins)
Offense: From the early indications, it looks as if the Ravens took a step back on the offensive side of the ball, mainly due to salary cap cuts with the releases of many of the offensive weapons: Todd Heap, Derrick Mason, Willis McGahee, LeRon McClain, and T.J. Houshmandzadeh. However with Houshmandzadeh's costly drop against the Steelers and his frustration with his role on the offense led to him not coming back with the team. The drops that have costs Baltimore's seasons the last two years has put a bad rap on quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco has been a reliable quarterback and has improved the last couple of years, he just needs his receivers to be sure handed. He had his best season of his career, throwing for 3,622 yards and 25 touchdowns. It will be interesting to see how he does this season without as many weapons has he had last year.Continued on the next page
