Philadelphia Eagles Running Back Lesean McCoy: Take 2
I covered this topic last week when I went inside the numbers and compared LeSean McCoy to other great Philadelphia Eagles running backs. However, after watching McCoy play vs. Dallas on Sunday night, it reaffirmed my column from last week. LeSean McCoy is really something special!
As I tweeted about McCoy during the game on Sunday night, NFL guru Adam Caplan tweeted me back that Westbrook may have a thing or two to say in the argument about who the best Eagles back of all time is. Yet another fan tweeted me his arguments for Eagles great, Steve Van Buren.
For the record, Westbrook only had 1,618 yards rushing after 3 full seasons. Van Buren had 1,805 yards after 3 full seasons. Wilbert Montgomery, who is the all time leading Eagles rusher, had 2,915 after three full seasons.
McCoy, who is only 23 years old, has 2,471 yards rushing after only two and a half seasons! He is currently 13th on the all time Eagles list and should pass Keith Byars before the end of this season. Byars has 2,672 yards for his career.
There is something else about McCoy that is stunning: he is averaging an amazing 5.0 yards per carry for his career. No other Eagles running back with over 500 carries has ever accomplished this feat.
I really believe that Eagles fans are witnessing a special player in their franchise’s history. As a long time Eagles fan, I am going to track McCoy’s road to becoming the overall best running back in franchise history. I will keep updating his numbers and doing the comparisons to other great Eagles backs.Continued on the next page
