Special Teams Seal the Patriots Victory Over Miami
The Patriots special teams, lead by Patrick Chung, were instrumental in bringing New England to a 41-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins. Chung blocked two kicks in the second half, and returned an interception for a 51-yard run that led to a touchdown in the final quarter.
Miami hit the field with good energy as Chad Henne connected with Davon Bess for the game's first touchdown. They continued defensively to stop the Patriots scoring drive, limiting their points to Stephen Gostowski’s two field goals.
The Patriots trailed 7-6 after the first half.
The Dolphin energy seemed to drain during the third quarter when Patriot Brandon Tate scored on a 103-yard kickoff return, which was immediately followed by a 12-yard touchdown run by BenJarvus Green-Ellis.
Dolphin Chad Henne appeared to step up, and connected with Ricky Williams for a 28-yard touchdown pass. Brady immediately followed up with an easy 11-yard touchdown pass to Danny Woodhead. The end of the third quarter brought the Patriots out in front by 13 with a score of 27-14.
The fourth quarter was all New England, with Chung blocking a punt to set up a touchdown, then blocking a 35-yard field goal, which was returned by Kyle Arrington for a touchdown. Chung’s interception and 51-yard touchdown, led the Patriots to their 41-14 victory. Patriot’s kicker, Gostkowski remained steady throughout the game, not missing an extra point or field goal.
Brady, who added 100 victories as a starting quarterback to his repertoire, only passed for 153 yards, compared to Henne’s 302 yards. New England moves into a tie with the New York Jets for first place in the AFC East.
