$10 wine
$10 wine is more than a price – it’s a style of wine that is consumer friendly, well made, and offers value. Equally as important, $10 wine isn’t associated with any of the winespeak, score-driven attitude that affects so much of the U.S. wine business. A $10 wine is honest and made for people to drink, not for reviewers to gush over. It’s about enjoyment, not pretense, Tuesday night Chinese takeout instead of $300 nouvelle cuisine. In addition, not all wine that costs $10 qualifies as $10 wine. Too many producers put a cute label on inferior wine and hope that the label makes up the difference, marketing wine like toothpaste or laundry detergent.

Since it looks like Falescos Vitiano, one of the Wine Curmudgeons all-time favorite trio of wines, is going to drop out of the $10 Hall of Fame next year because the weak dollar has pushed its price to $12, I thought it only fair to mention another Falesco wine from Italy. About the only thing wrong with the Est! ...2 weeks ago -

Wine of the week: Casteller Brut Rosé NV

The Wine Curmudgeon, as is well known , is a huge fan of Spanish sparkling wine, known as cava . In fact, my enthusiasm for cava, and especially Cristalino, annoys more than a few retailers of my acquaintance. One of them, in fact, insisted that the Casteller cava (about $10, purchased ) was so much better than ...3 weeks ago
