I’m not much good at poetry. I did teach it to fourth graders in Illinois. Why, because even though I’m not very good at creating it I can still be moved by good poetry. The only rule I ever had when asking 4th graders to write poetry was that they were not allowed to rhyme.

One of the cooler things about hockey is this: Each player on the team which wins the sport's championship trophy, the Stanley Cup, gets to take it home for a day. And yes, there is a parenting angle here. "Stanley sightings" are a big deal around here in years the Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup, including this year (and 1997, 1998, and 2002 in recent years).

Darren Draper, a tech specialist from Utah, had a great post yesterday about how to begin the process of choosing technology to introduce to a non-techie classroom. In response to a friends email, Darren compared the amount of technology available to teachers as a breakfast buffet: large, intimidating and no beginning or end.

The friendship between McCarty and Draper is special. The friendship is forever forged by having their names linked on four Stanley Cup championships in Detroit, but this year, it took on a deeper significance yet.
