I have not played Agricola due to its length - it takes at least a couple of hours, and I haven't been able to spare that for games lately. (Please don't ask how many half-hour games of Race for the Galaxy I've burned through lately.) During the time I have been not playing it, though, it's managed to knock Puerto Rico from the number-one spot on Board Game Geek's rankings.

Dwarf Fortress damp stone Unfortunately, the page this search linked to doesn't explain Dwarf Fortress's use of a damp stone. When you get a notification of a damp stone, it interrupts the dig action of your miner dwarf. To understand why this happens, imagine you are digging with a pick into a rock wall.

Now, here’s the thing about dwarves: they’re not like you and me. We wake up, we shower, we get dressed, we go to work, and while we’re doing all this, sometimes we get an idea. "I should write a cookbook that focuses on pomegranates," we think, and then we get out of the shower and towel off and we don’t write the book.

Dwarf Fortress 29 July 2008 at 1:09 am by ste I’ve been reading a lot about Dwarf Fortress recently, mostly here but also here and (inevitably) here, and it makes it sound absolutely brilliant. I have tried to play it and I cannot get past what posters in that first link refer to as the ‘learning cliff’, even with the aid of the wiki.

Filed under: RTS, Sandbox, Simulation Tarn Adams is just blitzing along with making sure his latest version of the exquisite Dwarf Fortress is (mostly) bug free. The next bugfix version has been released, bringing the version number to 39c.

Filed under: Indie, Sandbox, Simulation Once every few months, the slumbering bear stirs and gives us a new version of Dwarf Fortress. Sandbox game lovers rejoice, as the new version of Dwarf Fortress is here! Version v0.28.181.39a (or just 39a to most) includes the brand new wars and armies system that maps in conflicts into the world generation.

Here's the latest screenshot of my fortress Leaftome. Dwarf fortress is still in alpha, and though many times you can play year after year, sometimes you can only make it to the second year before something happens, and your save gets corrupt. The new year brought 18 migrants, and Leaftome really needed the extra hands.

Greetings from Leaftome The fortress named (randomly) Leaftome is coming along nicely. It's nearly the end of the first year, and things are chugging along. You can see in the middle where we've cut into the mountain and built out fortress. The red to the south west of the fortress is a magma vent.
