Scooter's New Trick
http://ontheneedles.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ scooters-new-trick.htmlHe actually seems to like this. What a character! Some types of birds actually like to play with their toys while laying on their backs. Scooter doesn't ever lay on his back on his own but, once he figured out what I was asking him to do, he didn't seem to mind doing this trick for me.

Ducky Umbrella
http://albuquerquedailyphoto.com/ ?p=630It was raining a bit here and I am not sure if the yellow duck was resting her head on Brownie or if she was trying to protect her from the rain. Watching these two was extremely entertaining. If one got up and moved the other one got up and moved with him. Probably because it was chilly and damp and they were huddling for warmth.

Monday
http://thequacksoflife.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ monday.htmlWell the weather was marginally cooler today. It was lovely. We went to Hunstanton, as I drove along the sea road a Fulmar floated above the cliffs. It’s another small traditional seaside resort. I pointed the bins off shore and saw 2 Sarnie Terns, 4 Canada Geese, 2 shelduck, nothing “exciting”.

Poll. Birds. Rinse. Repeat.
http://oaksong.livejournal.com/ 655068.htmlLast call for the religion poll, if anyone has a few spare minutes to kill and would like to assuage my curiosity. Thanks. In other news, the starling that is building a nest in the eaves over the front door is making really cute noises!

I Survived
http://www.flippyodegard.com/ index.php/ weblog/ i_survived/Leigh-Ann came home on Wednesday evening. None of the cats had diarrhea anymore, the litter boxes were all really clean, there was new cat food freshly made, and everyone was healthier than when she’d left. And then...I collapsed in exhaustion and stress relief while she took over the feeding & medicating.

Open Thread for Night Owls & Early Birds
http://www.dailykos.com/ storyonly/ 2008/ 5/ 17/ 04553/ 0439I've been a big fan of Harper's Index since forever. Footnoted statistics, often grouped in pairs, triplets or foursomes, guaranteed to spark a chuckle or a discussion. Like, for instance, this item from back in January: Percentage of NYU students who say they would "permanently forfeit" their vote

Drawing the line
http://sbisson.livejournal.com/ 847271.htmlWES this year was, as always, excellent. We got access to many of the people we wanted to talk to, including sessions with the co-CEOs of RIM, talking about the future of Blackberry and the role of the smartphone in a connected contextual world.

International Migratory Bird Day
http://monarchbfly.com/ 2008/ 05/ 16/ imbd/Northern Mockingbird Ya, Ya . . . I am about a week late with this report but it has been few days for me. I have been busy with getting ready for the Allegany State Park Geobash Event that we are having this weekend. On May 10th 2008 the Cattaraugus County Bird Club headed out for our annual Presque Isle State Park field trip for International Migratory Bird Day.

Softly the evening came
http://somewhereinnj.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ softly-evening-came.html"Softly the evening came." -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow On World Series day, we spent the hours around dusk at North Pond; the others were mostly looking at birds, but I was watching the clouds. ;-) It had been overcast all day, but the sky began to clear in the late afternoon and some of us stood
