Clearing the air
http://infovirtuoso.com/ blog/ 2008/ 05/ 13/ clearing-the-air/Not long before I left work today, TOTO came to me with a copy of our local paper’s Letters to the Editor and pointed out one written by someone who is “done” with our university. The letter writer ended it by saying she would do her master’s degree at our rival university, which is probably one of the reasons TOTO enjoyed it so much, seeing as she’s a graduate from that same university.

Are the Wheels Falling Off the ETS?
http://blog.greens.org.nz/ index.php/ 2008/ 05/ 14/ are-the-wheels-falling-off-t…What started off as merely a flawed and highly complex system is getting progressively worse. After weeks of intensive hearings the implications are crystallising and the flaws becoming more apparent. At the same time the Government is engaged in a process of pandering to vested interests and watering down the scheme, notifying the select committee as an afterthought.

Poetry Out Loud (and read to yourself)
http://thefischbowl.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 05/ poetry-out-loud-and-read-to-yourself…I meant to write this a couple of weeks ago right after National Poetry Month ended, but better late than never. First, this story on NPR lets you hear Shawntay Henry, this year’s winner of the Poetry Out Loud contest, read “Frederick Douglass” by Robert E. Hayden. Second, you can listen to the winners of AHS’s first iPoem contest.

Resentful Dreams
http://www.sharpsand.net/ 2008/ 05/ 13/ resentful-dreams/Funny how dreams lag behind events. Folk wisdom says that dreams predict the future, but my experience is that they predict the past. Over the last couple of nights I have dreamed, just before waking, about crappy things my colleagues have done to me. The events in the dreams are fictional, but related to things that have actually happened to me.

http://blog.imperfectparent.com/ 2008/ 05/ 13/ the-write-frame-of-mind/Throughout my illustrious career as a writer (go ahead and laugh now), I have been approached by many aspiring columnists/bloggers who wish to know how one actually lands a gig getting paid to give their opinions. You’ve got to admit it’s a pretty sweet deal.

$4.07 for unleaded gas, and climbing
http://www.atourworst.org/ 2008/ 05/ 13/ 407-for-unleaded-gas-and-climbing/When I first started driving back in 2002, I used to pay no more than $1.15 for a gallon of gas. It was awesome because my car only had an 11 gallon tank, and it would be under $13 to fill up my car. Typically that would last two weeks, since I usually only drive to school at that point.

5 Ways to land a great Freelancing Job
http://soho-life.com/ blog/ 2008/ 05/ 14/ 5-ways-to-land-a-great-freelancing-job…Telecommuting is beginning to emerge as a truly viable way to work nowadays as it’s proven to cut down on costs from an employer’s end and make life easier for the employee working from home. Employers used to believe that people working from home were more apt to not get the job done but that has
