    http://incaseofemergencyblog.com/ 2008/ 09/ 04/ ny-red-cross-chapter-starts-new-…

As I have written in recent posts here (as well as on the national American Red Cross’ Blog, Red Cross Chat, where I am a Guest Blogger this week), I have been following the Hurricane Gustav emergency preparations and response on several relatively new web sites set up to provide information to the public, the media and emergency responders during a disaster.

He Said, She Said… Who’s Right?

    http://blueherald.com/ 2008/ 09/ he-said-she-said-whos-right/

Gustav evacuees staying in Knoxville, TN., are complaining. Are their complaints legit? Is this a case of bad host or bad guests? You decide… From a Gustav evacuee: “Look. Look. It’s all sugar,” said New Orleans evacuee Wilmer Pappie, Jr. as he displayed a box of pastries and cookies.

Really, Give to the Red Cross?

    http://www.personaldemocracy.com/ node/ 2064

All eyes were on the Gulf Coast yesterday hoping and praying for Hurricane Gustav to lose steam, and thankfully, particularly for the citizens of New Orleans, it did. And politicians of all stripes were smart enough to take a break from campaigning in light of the potential catastrophic repeat of Katrina.

    Hurricane Force Social Media

While at this point it is apparent that Hurricane Gustav is not going to turn into another Katrina, at the end of last week it was not so clear. What was clear is that social media is playing a bigger role in disaster preparedness and response than ever before.
