As your Mom, Jackson, I have the bittersweet job of helping you grow up. With each step I cheer, my heart cringes a little. I am preparing you for a world without me. Today, you took one of life’s huge steps and became a first grader. You didn’t hold my hand. No - you walked ahead of me, lost in your own thoughts and nerves.

"So now that you've had your first day, tell me about the things you like best so far about this school year?" (This asked after 30+ minutes of homework...) Darren: "I like going to play at recess. It's fun, and can also help you learn.

They're off to their first day in first grade! And with Double Daddy heading off to LA in the mere minutes following the dual drop-off, what Mama could resist taking this image? Hmmm....any ideas what Tuesday Twinterview will be about later today?

The first child. He paves the way for the rest. He breaks in to the heart of his mom and others, he makes a nest in there, and then the time comes when he leaves the nest for over 6 hours a day, 5 days a week and my heart seems to big for my chest and quite empty. This is how I have felt about the first week of school.

comci, comca August 26th, 2008 Well here we are, two days into our new school year. And I.am.tired. I am trying to approach things with a different perspective than I usually do. I tend to be pretty black and white - either it is failing or it is working. Either it is easy or it is impossible.

My baby went on the bus. I got teary! He wouldn't hug me. He said "I'm too big, Mom"! He has to do a bus transfer and it makes me nervous. We've been over the bus number he has to get on a hundred times, so I hope he remembers it.

I've been sort of avoiding worrying about my guys starting school tomorrow. And by "my guys," I mostly mean Jack. I'm sure we'll have some bumps with Sam, but I'm not too worried. I'm scared shitless about Jack. Today was their school's open house. All the kids found out who their teachers are and visited their classrooms.

Happy Monday, folks! Around these parts, it’s the FIRST day of school, and this year my oldest is starting FIRST grade! The house was full of excitement after 7:07 a.m. this morning when Samuel woke up.
