Lessons learned from Madonna and Vampiric Pop
http://www.electricroulette.com/ 2008/ 12/ lessons-learned.htmlWhen someone mentions Madonna, the word 'reinvented' is never far away. Personally, I don't buy. Madonna never reinvented herself. Sure, she got a hair-cut some time, and sure, when her pop-stock was at an all-time low (for her at least, which equates to 'merely' selling a coupla million) she made

Wanna hear the best thing since sliced shit? Alan McGee reckons he knows...
http://www.electricroulette.com/ 2008/ 12/ wanna-hear-the.html...and I don't. Alan McGee, bless 'im. Been gettin' it wrong since the mid '90s. Sure, he gave me some of my fave Brit records ever, in My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Super Furry Animals... but that Kevin Rowland LP stunk like a week-old nappy and Oasis... well... I never got that.

Liam Gallagher to make a solo LP?
http://www.electricroulette.com/ 2008/ 12/ liam-gallagher.htmlLet's keep this short. Noel Gallagher has told someone or other that he wants Oasis to record solo albums after their current tour ends. Liam Gallagher is most likely to venture out on his own, as he has "tonnes and tonnes of songs".

Pinnacle goes bust... and it's much bigger news than you think
http://www.electricroulette.com/ 2008/ 12/ pinnacle-goes-b.htmlUnless you're a sad loser like me, chances are, you will never have heard of Pinnacle. Pinnacle are a distribution company who help indie labels put out records. In fact, they help over 400 indie labels get their records to the stands. They've gone bankrupt.

Fleetwood Mac, Greatest Hits Tour
http://www.electricroulette.com/ 2008/ 12/ fleetwood-mac-g.htmlFleetwood Mac. I mean, look at 'em. Square as fuck. Look at that guy's lame 'Save The Whales' t-shirt! Look at Mick Fleetwood being all kooky, like the time he featured on the 'Rumours' LP cover with some weird testes hanging from his groin! Anyway, one thing FM do well, and that's to make super popular LPs and stuff.

In memory of Iris Bancroft
http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/ 446709.htmlNothing about Iris Bancroft was typical, especially her birth. It was exotic—and tragic. She was born of missionaries in King Chow, Hupeh Provence, China, on May 26, 1922, a time of great unrest. Her parents were sent there by the Swedish Covenant Church to work with the Chinese converts.

Well…
http://castingoutnines.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 12/ 03/ well/That hiatus over Thanksgiving has now turned into what looks like a hiatus for most of this week. Somehow I always underestimate the amount of work that goes into the week before finals week, which is what this is. I think after tomorrow it will calm down a little, and then I can post a few things that have come across the radar screen over the last week.
