Wow, now this is something I had no clue about. Did you know that while we (moms) might get “Momnesia” for a while after giving birth, but we actually get smarter? According to a report done a few months ago they have discovered that not only do we get smarter but giving birth also lowers our risk of cancer.

Finally they've given it a name. You know what I'm talking about. You walk out of the mall and can't remember where you parked your car. Or worse, you get in your car and can't remember where you're going. Or the very worst: you call someone on the phone, and before they can pick up, you forget who it is you're calling and what you're calling about.

Have you ever forgotten where you put your keys last? Or went to the grocery store and left that list on the kitchen counter? How about not packing extra baby clothes in your diaper bag incase your newborn soaked through his diaper? I'm sure all of us have experienced some form of the dreaded mommy brain or what researchers now call "Momnesia".

A good friend of mine sent me this link to a very interesting story yesterday. It explains a phenom some call momnesia: From USA today : While researchers say they can’t explain all the ways motherhood affects a woman’s memory, they agree there’s a pattern. Like Massingill, many moms feel mentally foggy in the days after delivery.

I’ve been accused on more than one occasion of being a little ditzy. From putting the milk away in the pantry to leaving my keys in the door, I know I am more than a little guilty. However, I learned this morning that it’s not my fault. The blame lies with my children.

I woke up at 5:30 this morning with a flash of insight. I finally remembered where my cell phone was. It had been missing since 3 pm on Wednesday when I put it in a safe spot-- a dining room chair-- while I was straightening up. Of course it was such a "safe" spot, that I couldn't find it.

Having made the decision to stay at home with our daughter, I have defended the life of a stay-at-home mother to countless women who are still in the workplace. I do so subconsciously, hardly noticing as I minimize the total exhaustion that has overtaken my body.
