http://trishsbooks.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 09/ half-of-yellow-sun-chimamanda-ngozi.h…Title: Half of a Yellow Sun Author: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Date Finished: Sept 18, 2008 #54 Pages: 541 Rating: 4.25/5 I have been wanting to read this book for a long time--ever since Adichie was announced as the winner of the Orange Prize last year--so I jumped on the opportunity it read it with an online discussion group this month.

American Pastoral - Philip Roth
http://johnandsheena.co.uk/ books/ ?p=215Context: Finished this off on my bed as a migraine kicked in. REVIEW It’s going to be a while before I read another “classic American novel.” One of the few things that I was thankful for while reading this was that it was half the length of Underworld by DeLillo. Apart from that, there wasn’t much else that impressed me.

Indigo - Marina Warner
http://johnandsheena.co.uk/ books/ ?p=179Context: Read this during breaks while studying at the Wycliffe UK centre. REVIEW Haven’t read the Tempest by Shakespeare but apparently, this is based on it. Don’t really understand why you’d bother to rewrite Shakespeare. I mean, you can hardly improve on him can you.

Singles as Marketing Tools?
http://calebmonroe.com/ ?p=74I’m currently reading The Well-Fed Self-Publisher by Peter Bowerman. An excellent read, using one big case study (his own experiences) of how he’s turned the self-publishing of a couple niche non-fiction books into a full-time living.

Villette - Charlotte Bronte
http://johnandsheena.co.uk/ books/ ?p=170Context: Finished off in the garden while housesitting for some friends. REVIEW Forget Jane Eyre. Yes, I said forget her. There is such a huge chasm of difference between these books that you’d hardly think they were by the same author. I speak not of plot. No science fiction or detective thriller is Villette.

THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN
http://booksnbordercollies.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ adventures-of-huckleberry-fin…by Mark Twain As usual when I read a classic of this caliber, there is not a single innovative thing I can say. It's all been dissected and studied more closely than I will ever attempt on these pages. I will say this, however: If you have not yet read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, you truly are missing out.

Oblomov - Ivan Goncharov
http://johnandsheena.co.uk/ books/ ?p=150Context: started this on a walk in the country in Portugal with my family. REVIEW Never heard of this and would never have done if it wasn’t for the 1001 list. It’s books like this that justify lists like these.

Review: Atonement, by Ian McEwan
http://agirlwalksintoabookstore.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ review-atonement-by-ian-…So many people have written a review of this book already that I think it would be a little redundant of me to do another plot summary (yawn). Suffice it to say that the plot really revolves around three characters: Briony Tallis, who’s thirteen in the summer of 1935, her sister Cecilia, and Robbie Turner, the charlady’s son, who conducts an illicit romance with her.
