    A Sabbatical from Designer Denim

    http://cheapjap.com/ 2008/ 10/ 10/ a-sabbatical-from-designer-denim/

When the economy sucks and gets suckier, sacrifices have to be made in all areas of life. Maybe we can’t afford ten dollars in Pinkberry each day. Maybe we also need to let go of one of our usual splurgy poos…at least for the time being. The first one to go? Designer denim. Buh. Bye.

    Ad Wars: The Chicago Way

    http://ndnblog.org/ node/ 3015

The assault continues, as a new RNC ad links Barack Obama to three "shady" politicians. Bill Ayers makes another appearance. Tony Rezko is a new face in these ads-- he was convicted of fraud and bribery earlier this year, and surely represents some of what is worst in politics.

On the fate of Derrek Lee Submitted by Kurt on October 10, 2008 - 12:56pm Derrek Lee I just finished conversing with a friend of mine who shall remain anonymous, because the last time I mentioned his name in this blog he threw a fit.  For easy reference, we'll just call him Sheffieldave.  Sheff

Racism, homophobia and the like... Submitted by Mama Liberty on Fri, 2008-10-10 07:38. Anarchy Curmudgeonry Deep Thought In thinking about the recent discussions on hierarchy, some ideas from another discussion came to me and it seemed this might be a good place to explore them.

ne.code4lib.org In case you haven't seen the discussion on the code4lib list, the New England chapter of code4lib is pulling itself up from its own bootstraps. They're self-organizing using a wiki and are currently voting on a venue for the first meeting.

    Anthony Pateras - Chromatophore (Tzadik)

    http://www.cyclicdefrost.com/ blog/ ?p=2400

Melbourne composer/ performer Anthony Parteras has the annoying propensity to make me feel ignorant on a regular basis. Some of the things he does to music/ sound are almost beyond comprehension. Somehow he manages to simultaneously appear structurally rigorous whilst maintaining the option of allowing anything happening at any time.

    Moussa Doumbia - Keleya (Orki)

    http://www.cyclicdefrost.com/ blog/ ?p=2399

So it’s mid to late 70’s Afro funk from the Ivory Coast, the kind of exotic brew that crate diggers go crazy for. There are strong links to James Brown in some of the vocal exclamations, Doumbia’s rapping, spitting, wailing and spoken word over repetitive ultra funky bass grooves and his Afro rhythms

    http://news.tubefilter.tv/ 2008/ 10/ 10/ the-21-conspiracy-is-the-aussies-best-k…

The 21 Conspiracy has been quietly growing a cult of followers Down Under, making the thriller web series from upstart Spaceboy Productions the best kept secret in Australia’s web scene. Since its launch in mid-July, the series has propelled the Spaceboy YouTube channel to #24 All-Time amongst the site’s Aussie partners, and notching over 85,000 views for the series so far.

    Get It Down: 31 for 21 - Day 10

    http://christinamolin.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 10/ 10/ get-it-down-31-for-21-day-10/…

I am a bit biased, but I am pretty sure my kid will make it to the Special Olympics (like the BIG once) and win a ton of medals. We just need to get a clearing on the Atlantoaxial Instability possibility.

Chris Abrahams - The Tender Hook Soundtrack (Vitamin Records)

    http://www.cyclicdefrost.com/ blog/ ?p=2398

I haven’t yet seen the movie, but one of the main criticisms of The Tender Hook which I’ve encountered actually sounds like a strength to me - that the anachronistic components are jarring and don’t let the viewer suspend disbelief in order to settle into the Sydney of the 1920s.
