5 Great Independent Record Stores 20 April 2008 by dkpresents The first annual ‘Record Store Day‘ was held yesterday to raise the profile of - and provide a shot in the arm for - struggling independent music sellers. Music stores across North America took the day to celebrate the culture of buying and selling records, and draw attention to their financial plight.

It seems that with each passing week there's another shop opening its doors over on 2nd Ave. The latest is A Town and Country Floral. Occupying a space that for years played host to some odd architectural pillars and empty fireplace mantels, their new space is colorful, roomy, and strategically located directly across from a bridal shop.

Speaking of curb cuts, I was passing along NE 2nd Avenue and was completely disgusted to experience firsthand the atrocities permitted to occur on the backside of the buildings facing Biscayne Bay. The term Biscayne wall is quite fitting as the backsides of these towers were clearly designed to resemble the blank slate of a concrete wall, keeping pedestrians well away.
