My life has reached another season. I’m not the child you would scold, But tell me father, am I still your son?   In my spring, new and void of reason, you would shield me from the untold. But now my life has reached another season.   Summers years were marked with open minds and little need for your fold.

9:30 AM Light shown through the blinds TV snow so much colder time for me to wake   10:40 AM Drizzle guttering Acrid smell of wet asphalt Saturated ground   10:50 AM Cakes of cruel design balanced only by piping hot coffee; Awake!   11:10 AM The gray fluorescence of humming fixtures drones on.

I’ve come to appreciate the confinement of my backyard. I don’t think it smothering as a doting lover anymore, but it is just as accommodating. It’s not as pretty as it used to be, but it is still a part of the home that I grew up in.   It flexes as the moods of the day change and oscillate.

The holes I put in my eyelids offer no solace and give me no jump on the day. They just let the night seep in faster. Unfair.   Eyes steady as a chopping block, fixed against an invisible target. Hands gripping at the wheel. Clumping together all the days’ tragedies to make them easier to swallow.

Another frozen morning at my favorite beach. Again, I am here in time to watch the sun rise. But there is never a sunrise here. There’s just a slow rolling ignition of a gray sky.   I’m not exactly sure what draws me here this early.
