Doubtless many of the readers of this blog have looked at the world of startups and thought, “I bet I could do that.” And many probably stopped right there, not knowing where to begin. That’s where Adaptive Path co-founder Jeffrey Veen, and Adaptive Path’s COO Bryan Mason come in.

Jason and I are really excited to have Ryan Freitas joining the Plinky team. Ryan comes from Adaptive Path where he did led the recent MySpace redesign and a lot of the work on Plazes and Sphere, both of which had recent exits. In short, he’s a user experience guru with a great track record.

Plinky, the secretive service that can right now only be vaguely described as a social content encouragement startup, is getting less secretive. It finally has a website. (Well, a place-holder for one anyway.) And now it’s making a high-profile hire. Today the company brings on board Ryan Freitas as the director of product design.

Because Sybase has yet to address the GLIBC (LD_POINTER_GUARD) issue with any of their products on Linux, we are forced to find alternative ways of getting Sybase software to run on modern Linux distribution.  In this situation, we will be using the Ubuntu 8.04 Just Enough OS (Ubuntu JEOS) Linux distribution.

Earlier today, Nokia announced an agreement to acquire Plazes, the Berlin-based service for connecting people to the places where they spend their time. We’re very excited for our friends on the Plazes team, and offer them our heartfelt congratulations.
