If you’ve not seen Charlie Wilson’s War, I highly recommend it.  Charlie Wilson for those who don’t know him, was a “Good Time Charlie” kinda guy. A Congressman from Texas, Charlie happened to sit on the House Appropriations committee in the 1980s.

Posting's been light here lately, and I'm afraid it will continue so for at least a few more days. I'm gettin' the hell outa Dodge on Friday, so right now I'm in the middle of preparations. I hope to do more writing once I'm settled into my vacation, but for now I'll give you a link.

Last weekend I watched Charlie Wilson's War -- a political movie based on the true story of the backroom negotiations of playboy Congressman Wilson's efforts to obtain Stinger missiles for Afghanistan to shoot down Soviet helicopters in the 1980s. With sex, drugs, and politics, the movie is anything but dull.

What kind of film would you expect from the writing of Aaron Sorkin and the direction of Mike Nichols? A smart, witty and entertaining film that challenges conventional wisdom and pokes fun at the establishment. How this film only received one Oscar nomination is beyond me.

As is my custom, I rarely get to the movies before they come out on DVD, and such is the case with the Tom Hanks flick -- Charlie Wilson's War. The movie, as the opening lines let us know, is based on a true story, which means that parts of it are created (a historical novel if you will).
