Amsterdam airport toilets come up smelling of tulips

    http://www.europealacarte.co.uk/ blog/ 2008/ 07/ 04/ amsterdam-airport-toilets-c…

I was pretty impressed by one of the ladies toilets at Amsterdam airport (Schiphol). Apart from being amazingly clean (as were all the ladies toilet in the airport) these facilities sported a very appropriate tulip theme. I applaud the time and effort spent in making these toilets so pleasant with a winning combination of cleanliness and art.

Among the travel-related art hanging on my walls is a poster of this shot taken by Garry Winogrand in 1964. The subject, of course, is LAX’s Theme Building, which opened in 1961 and is among Los Angeles’ most intriguing landmarks.

If you’ve already purchased tickets for flights after Labor Day, you might want to call up your airline and make sure your plane will still be taking off. In their mad rush to cut back on flights, some airlines have already put some customers’ long-term travel plans in jeopardy.

An airline snack like no other

    http://www.slashfood.com/ 2008/ 07/ 03/ an-airline-snack-like-no-other/

Filed under: Baking, AmericaAs airlines continue to go out of business and slash budgets at rapid rates, the free snack foods are often the first to get cut. And forget honey-roasted peanuts - now, with fears of peanut allergies, many airlines have switched to boring ol' pretzels, in fear of getting sued by the parents of allergic toddlers, or - gulp - nothing at all!

A couple of weeks ago I write about how the rise in oil prices is going to hit the airlines. The effect is also going to hit Beoing, Airbus and Bombardier hard too - as outlined yesterday by Kristen Lagadec for GlobalPublicMedia But don’t expect to hear very much about this from the boosters at YVR and Abbotsford.

Back to Basics: A.M. or P.M.

    http://www.flyawaycafe.com/ back-to-basics-am-or-pm/

A.M., or "ante meridiem" in Latin, means before noon. P.M., or "post meridiem" in Latin, means after noon. One letter difference, but if you aren’t paying attention it could mean missing your flight. It always amazes me how otherwise bright people can get totally confounded by departure times.  There was a situation involving a friend who has a 12:30 a.m.
