    http://www.planebuzz.com/ 2008/ 07/ american_airlines_one_big_surv.html

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you. Reports tonight say American Airlines, British Airways and Spain's Iberia are "close to applying for antitrust immunity to form a joint venture that would be one of the most powerful forces in the transatlantic aviation market." Their words, not mine.

Back on the beat, just in time for more travel downgrades!

Thanks for your patience while the missus and I took some time off. Like Richard Nixon in 1968, I’m tanned, rested, and ready, as promised. Some observations on the trip itself — which was to the Turks and Caicos, incidentally — later. I don’t normally give trip reports, per se, but this one will deserve some special comment.

Top heavy at Northwest and bottom heavy at American?

What a week it has been for the US air transport industry, eh? Mesa Air Group appears to have narrowly avoided Chapter 11 after prevailing in a court case against Delta Air Lines. US Airways and United Airlines have decided that a merger doesn't make sense under current economic conditions (note to Delta and Northwest).
