I had the chance to visit the @media conference in London again, for the third time. Again it was different than the last times. Perhaps less spectacular, a little less people, no real revelation. There were excellent talks inside the halls, but the best talks happened outside.

Recently Andy Rubin, the Google engineering director heading up Google's mobile platform Android, likened today's hodge-podge of mobile phone software to the early days of personal computers. I thought the reference to the earlier days of the PC was spot on.

While an official announcement has not been made, comments by Android project leader Andy Rubin indicate that an Android App Store is definitely in the works: ???It would be a great benefit to the Android community to provide a place where people can go to safely and securely download content and where a billing system would allow developers to get paid for their effort???.

But how much did they spend on the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company started by Android leader Andy Rubin? No one at Microsoft is talking, nor are the guys at Danger.

All things considered, when scanning the list there aren’t really too many surprises, considering that this is the same awards show that had Jethro Tull beating out Metallica and Steely Dan beating out everyone a few years back. It wasn’t out of line to figure Amy Winehouse to win a bunch of awards…and she did.
