sleeping under the stars it seems amazing that only two weeks ago today I was half way down the ardeche just about to spent a night by the side of the river sleeping under the stars. I make no apologies for going on about this part of france as the ardeche river valley is a special place even though I have been there many times now, l am increasingly impressed each time I visit.

Mt Gerbier de Jonc Yesterday, we headed to the mountains. X's parents took The Girl & I out for lunch. In the summer, the folks here head to the mountains to cool off (at one point, we had to pull out our sweaters so always go prepared). It's beautiful out there & in the summer, everything is green.

perhaps I can relax a little now well with the end of the teaching term today. I am now thinking about trying to relax a little before I have to start planning for a new challenge moving into the next academic year and a new/additional role. I will be taking a day or so to do nothing much before I can start to hopefully have some days at the beach.

Every year the spa town of Vals les Bains (about 10 mins drive from us) would host a Festival du Jeu (festival of games) so basically turning the park into a huge playground. It's all free & everyone is encouraged to participate, play & have fun. I went there last year & made sure to go again this year.

Ardeche is the name of the department where we live & also the name of the river. France is divided into regions made of up different departments which are in turn made up of communes (are you still with me ?). So for example we're in the commune of St Julien du Serre which is part of Ardeche 07 & part of the region of Rhone Alpes (still there ?).

it has been a bit of a rush you may not be at all surprised to find a picture of somewhere french here (picture above, ardeche river shallows). I got back at the weekend and haven't had time to post anything. I am not sure whether it is because I am still too tired or becuase I have just been very busy.

One of the joys of summer - fruit picking. Who doesn't enjoy picking a fruit right off the tree/plant & eating it there & then ? I must have mentioned that Rene, X's father has an organic garden but let me clarify this further, it should be called a plantation.

Each time summer is around, I get really excited because that means there will be flux of cool events & activities which we don't normally get around here. Which is one of the reasons I missed NY. Over there, you are spoilt for choice EVERY single day. One such cool event was Les Arts Cordes that I'd gone to watch last night.

off to france tomorrow I am off to france tomorrow, so while there I will not be writing any posts. no doubt I will have even more things french (and some not) to tell you about. right this moment I have still to finish things here before I even think about going away. hopefully by the time I reach the ardeche region.

Aubenas is the nearest town to us & there's where we go see the doctor, do our banking, shopping etc. The town centre is perched on top of a hill & the castle can be seen as you approach. It also has a good view of the river Ardeche that meanders around.
