BCS
The Bowl Championship Series is a system to determine which two American football college teams will play for the national championship. Its main two components are national opinion polls and computer rankings.
The reason the BCS gets a lot of traction in the blogosphere because it's rooted in controversy. While some people assert a playoff isn't needed, the majority of people agree the BCS doesn't work and since every other major team sport in the United States uses a playoff to determine champions without much controversy, college football should too.
But whether fans question the validity of the BCS or not, odds are they are curious to see which team has the inside track to the BCS Championship Game, played every January. After Saturday's games are played, the BCS releases updated rankings every Sunday night to determine which two football teams will clash helmets for the love of a supercomputer and its associated opinion polls.
