“Boom Blox” made quite a splash when it was released last week, appealing to pretty much everyone that isn’t still playing “Grand Theft Auto IV.” Its creative and unique challenges, coupled with possibly be the best use of the Wii remote from a third-party titles to date, set it apart from the pile of party games already released on the Wii.

This is one to watch.. I’m not really a wii guy, but I would play this.. Definitely well before I’d play wii fit! And get this - it was spearheaded by Steven Speilberg!

Surprise! Surprise! Mr. Spielberg has another hit on his hands, but no I’m not talking about the next Indana Jones movie, I’m blabbering about the Nintendo Wii game called Boom Blox! Steven Spielberg involved in video game development!?!? I know, sounds cool, and it is! He has signed a three game development deal with EA and the first fruits of this creative clash is Boom Blox.

I’d been hearing some good things about Boom Blox, enough so that I decided to look up when it would release.  When I did, I found that it hit retail last week!  I headed over to Gamestop after work to pick up a copy and brought it home.  This is the first game in a while that really executes

When it was first announced that Stephen Spielberg would be designing a Wii exclusive game, fans across the globe shouted out in joy. However, when it was announced that the exclusive game wouldn’t be an epic adventure on scale with his films, but a block based physics game, those fans hearts immediately sank.

I realize this recommendation may fall on deaf ears — Mario Kart Wii and Grand Theft Auto IV are already sucking up gamers’ attention, and The World Ends With You and WiiWare most likely will be soon. Okami is equally phenomenal I’m told. But you’d be doing yourself a disservice as a lover of single player addictive gameplay to overloook Boom Blox.

Nothing like catching a cold right before a busy week. I’m over here mainlining soup and DayQuil with hopes for the best. The great bonus is that while I was out getting more cold-deflecting drugs, I managed to stop by the game shop and get a copy of The World Ends With You.

I rented Boom Blox on friday… Wow, this game is extremely good. It’s a puzzle game built around a powerful physics engine, in which you move blocks around to achieve an objective. There is a mode where you have to find a way to make special blocks hit the ground by tossing a ball at the structure.
