In early 2007, some Thai government officials totally overreacted to a silly video making fun of Thailand's king, and banned all of YouTube. Of course, the inevitable result wasn't that the video went away, but that it got a lot more attention both inside and outside of Thailand thanks to the futile attempt to ban it.

Fred gave an excellent speech tonight

Finally, some red meat. Fred Thompson gave an excellent speech tonight, a combination of both narrative storyline to reintroduce us into John McCain’s past, and scathing attack on Barack Obama liberalism. Some choice moments: This is the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders.

    Sharks and Underwear

    http://intlxpatr.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 09/ 02/ sharks-and-underwear/

Two things happened yesterday that caught my attention - and I wonder if everyone knows about these things except for me, or if others are also caught by surprise. First, on the way to go shopping, my good friend told me that shark is no longer available in the fish souks.

    Labor Going Out Of Style

    http://www.scragged.com/ articles/ labor-going-out-of-style.aspx

Back in August 2007, it was clear that health care would be a Presidential issue. Scragged published "The Only Health Care Question" to remind everyone that any health care system must include some way to limit demand. There are limits to the amount of food that a person can eat, but there's no limit to the amount of health care that anyone can consume.

    DIY: Puzzle made of paper-clips

    http://whitesandsdigital.com/ wordpress/ 2008/ 08/ 31/ diy-puzzle-made-of-paper-…

This puzzle is an example of the game that we were making using simple tools from father’s toolbox and regular paper clips (bureaucracy provided infinite supply of paper-clips so they were quite easy to get), read more | digg story

    Security Transmitted Diseases

    http://airplanepilot.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ security-transmitted-diseases.html

Security signs usually make me laugh. They're so earnest and serious and I can imagine them being discussed and approved by a committee somewhere. I suppose that people may see signs reminding them to abide by security procedures for the few weeks that it takes for them to have the security procedures ingrained.

    Journalists noticing our EU government?

    http://tonysharp.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 08/ journalists-noticing-our-eu-government.…

It is not very often you find a newspaper article decrying some regulation or other that actually goes on to mention the origin of the regulations. But one Daily Mail journalist, Martin Delgado, seems to have recognised the real source of health and safety rules that are applied in the UK - although

    Dueling Tasklists

    http://www.intellectualpoison.com/ 2008/ 08/ dueling-tasklists.html

I have, at this moment, four local schools depending on me to maintain and upgrade their campus technology. What this means is that I have four competing tasklists each with high priority items. And every day I go to a different site, reload for a whole new set of problems, teachers, students and support staff.
