CAMERA

A camera is a device that records images. These images can either be still images or moving images. A camera takes still images, and a camcorder or movie camera takes moving images. Here I will refer to the former.

The term camera comes from the "camera obscura" which is Latin for "dark chamber" or "room." With the exception of specialty cameras such as the infrared, most work with the visible light spectrum. A camera consists of a body with an opening where light enters to a recording surface for capturing the light.

The Camera obscura was invented by an Iraqi scientist around 1015-1021 and would display its image on paper or glass. The first permanent image made by a camera was created in 1826 using a sliding wooden box camera. The first color camera was made by James Clerk Maxwell in 1861, and the first true digital camera was a Fuji DS-1P in 1988.

While the technology may change, one aspect that will remain is that people like to retain images and memories. And as long as that happens, it does not matter what medium it is stored on - it will still be captured by a camera.
