COMCAST
Comcast is the largest cable company in the United States. Comcast was founded in 1963 as a single-line cable system out of Tupelo, Mississippi by Daniel Aaron, Julian A. Brodsky, and Ralph J. Roberts.
Since their humble beginnings, Comcast has ventured into many avenues beyond simple cable television. Comcast offers users an online presence at Comcast.net and Fancast, high-speed Internet through its cable lines, digital phone service, and services exclusively for businesses. As of mid-2008, Comcast had operations in 39 states, servicing nearly 25 million cable, 15 million high-speed Internet, and six million digital voice customers.
Of course, Comcast's reputation has not always been squeaky clean. Customers nationwide have become frustrated with the cable giant, fleeing for satellite companies such as DirecTV and the Dish Network in the 21st century.
In 2008, Comcast lost a key legal battle with the FCC. The Federal Communications Commission ruled that "Comcast was in the wrong when they dialed down bandwidth or interrupted transmissions altogether among their customers using file-sharing programs."
