Children's books

Tag details

Children's books is a popular tag often used by bloggers who review books for children and by people discussing children's literature, such as parents, teachers, librarians, book award committees, and booksellers. The tag is also often used by the authors, illustrators, editors and publishers who create children's books. There are many web sites, professional organizations, and courses dedicated to children's books.

It is generally thought that books referred to as children's books are for readers up to age twelve. Books for young readers ages thirteen and above are referred to as young adult books or YA. Children's books are categorized many different ways. Some categorize children's books by genre, such as biography, fantasy & science fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Others categorize children's books by their format, such as board books, chapter books, easy readers, hardcover books, paperback books, picture books, and pop-up books. Children's books are also categorized by their reading level, such as easy readers and middle grade fiction.

Regardless of how they are categorized, many books termed children's books are read and enjoyed by young adults and adults.

I think its safe to say that when children reach the older elementary school years, there begins to be a slight level of gender differences in what reading materials are most attractive.
