Continental Airlines
Continental Airlines first flew in 1934 under the name Varney Speed Lines, named after its founder, Walter T. Varney. Continental was the second airline company Walter founded, just a few short years after starting United Airlines.
Continental Airlines became Continental in 1937 after new owner Robert F. Six purchased the company. Under the name Continental, the airline has gone through an up-and-down history, including a 1981 acquisition by Texas Air Corporation, followed by two bankruptcies, the events of 9/11, and the 2007-2008 run-up on jet fuel prices. Remarkably, Continental Airlines continues to operate over 3,000 flights a day and is known as one of the best airlines in the industry today.
Continental Airlines is headquartered in Houston, Texas and runs its hubs out of Cleveland, Guam, Houston, and Newark.
