Credit Cards
Back in the olden days, it was not uncommon to hear someone say, "I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left." But in this day and age people aren't starting out with nothing. They are starting out with a credit card.
With a credit card, you can buy anything (including, but not limited to, anything). Even if you have nothing. And so it goes. Purchase after purchase. Item after item. Until someone who started out with nothing has everything!
But then the bills start to come in the mail. At first, they might be manageable. You can pay off the balance every month if you are careful with your funds. But then one month you have an unexpected car repair or your daughter needs braces, and all of a sudden you find yourself with a balance on your credit card that you just can't get on top of it, no matter how hard you try. And to add injury to insult, everyone will accept credit cards. So the downward spiral continues until you are absolutely in over your head if you are not careful.
