There are several disaster preparedness exercises that test and train our government and private sector partners’ ability to respond to incidents that could have catastrophic consequences. These exercises can be supported by a robust enterprise architecture; here is a brief description followed by a sketch of how EA can support disaster preparedness.

Last month DHS conducted a week long cyber security exercise called Cyber Storm II. This year’s exercise included two large chemical companies along with representatives from 38 other companies, 18 Cabinet-level agencies and four foreign governments.

This is pretty interesting - US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are taking part in a fictitious cyberwar as an exercise to prepare and plan for sustained cyber attacks including some of which have actually caused power outages.

The exercise will test the security of the US, Australia, the UK, New Zealand, and Canada. The organizers' goals are to test preparedness and responsiveness in kin to real-time threats.
