Dentist

A practitioner in the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of conditions, diseases and disorders of the mouth, teeth, gums and adjacent areas is a dentist. Dentists can prescribe medication, x-rays and devices for home or in office use. Common treatment includes dental surgery for treatment of cavities or tooth issues. Restorative and cosmetic dentistry have become popular choices and can include implants, porcelain veneers and other corrective procedures.

There is historical evidence of dentistry as far back as 7000 BC where bow drills were used on the teeth. In the Middle Ages dentistry procedures were performed by barbers or physicians.
