Study: Music, memory, and growing up

    http://crossderry.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 22/ study-music-memory-and-growing-up…

As regular readers know, I’m a sucker for studies that purport to explain various phenomena.  Here’s a study summary that looks at one of the most evocative stimuli for remembrance of things past: music (no, not madeleines).  From the article: Matching our intuitions about music, researchers have found that music is an important influence on our memories.

In the Utah desert, a GPS is no substitute for common sense

    http://timpanogos.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 08/ 10/ in-the-utah-desert-a-gps-is-no-su…

A cardinal rule of driving the western U.S. is this: Don’t head off through the mountains or desert without knowing how you’re going to get back, or get to the next smattering of civilization. Why? Old friend Peter B. Pope once trekked a chunk of Wyoming with another friend, and they had a bit of an altitude sickness scare.

Congrats to Scott Hudson: Eagle Scout at age 36

    http://www.speedofcreativity.org/ 2008/ 08/ 03/ congrats-to-scott-hudson-eagle-s…

Congrats to Illinois middle school educator Scott Hudson, who at the age of 36 finally received his Eagle Scout award after an appeals process, 18 years after he completed his Eagle Project. In high school living in Germany, Scott had completed his Eagle project but his family moved back to the United States before he could complete his Scoutmaster conference and board of review.

This is for Dana. Here’s my picture: “Im a hungry, hungry giraffe. I eat my vegetables, Tom Duvall does not.” The subject of my post is John McCain’s motto. I have heard that specific phrase coming from Senator McCain himself as well as from many of his spokesman.

    The Project

    http://cleghornfamily.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 07/ project.html

The Project... Mark and the City of Chandler teamed up to spackle, scrape, tape, and paint a house for a wonderful lady whom other wise couldn't do it for herself. The project... Beautify Chandler. This city project is in place for the elderly in our community who are on fixed incomes and need a helping hand.

Good news from a great friend.

    http://navytim.wordpress.com/ 2008/ 07/ 25/ good-news-from-a-great-friend/

Being deployed can be weary with the lack of interaction from friends and family.  Email and boxes in the mail, even a phone call now and then - can only go so far.  But all are worth it.  The surprise when you get something unexpected can carry you for the week.  It’s not alway tangible.

    Scout Scholarships

    http://www.boyandgirlscouts.com/ community-partners/ scout-scholarships/

In a publication coincidentally named the Eagle-Tribune in Maryland, you will learn that 5 Eagle Scouts have earned college scholarships totaling $44,000. One of the benefits of working for Eagle rank for years is the ability to access special scholarships operated for the benefit of Boy Scouts who attain that rank.
