Tag details

Earth Hour is a global initiative from the brain child of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Raising awareness to take action against Global Warming is the main theme of the Earth Hour. Every year on the last Saturday of March, people from all around the world show-off their support for Earth Hour by switching off their lights for one hour.

This event was first brought into the limelight in Sydney, Australia in 2007 where 2.2 million homes and business organizations came together by turning off their lights for one hour. In 2008 Earth Hour expanded worldwide to became a global movement. 50 million people from 35 countries joined this initiative.

For 2009 the WWF is taking this initiative to a new level, expecting 1 billion peoples supportive global vote to VOTE EARTH from more than 83 countries and territories to become active part of the Global Climate Change conference in Copenhagen 2009. As such, you can expect to see lots of internet talk as the blogosphere gears up for the event.
