Happy Greek Easter As it is Easter in Greece/Cyprus I thought it would be the right time to show some morepictures i took of some Easter displays i saw on my last trip. It was a dull day so we had got in a taxi and went for a day out, the sun tried to shine but the rain won through at times.

Today is Easter in the Orthodox Church of Cyprus.  Though I didn’t attend the Easter service this year, it is one of my favorites.  The Orthodox acknowledge Christ’s resurrection at exactly midnight.  In the village services I’ve attended in the past, the lights in the church were turned out and there was a hush over the congregation a few minutes before midnight.

For most readers of these pages, Easter happened almost five weeks ago. But for the Eastern church, today is Good Friday, one of the holiest days of the year, with Easter in two days' time. This is a Greek Orthodox country, celebrating Eastern Easter, so all shops in Cyprus will be closed on Sunday and Monday.

Ingredients > 500g lamb rump steaks, cut in cubes 1 red onion, cut into wedges Soured cream mixed with a few sniped chives Grated lemon zest and fresh mint leaves, to garnish For the salsa > 1 fresh, ripe mango, peeled, stoned and diced 1 red pepper, deseeded and finely diced 2 tbsp

Ingredients > 250g mixed dried fruits Grated zest and juice 1 medium orange 175g softened butter 175g caster sugar 3 eggs, beaten 300g self-raising flour 1 tsp mixed spice ½ tsp freshly grated nutmeg 5 tbsp milk 175g marzipan 200g icing sugar 2 tbsp orange juice for mixing 36 mini

Ingredients > 150g milk chocolate 50g dark chocolate 1 heaped tbsp golden syrup 1 tbsp cocoa powder 25g butter 5 shredded wheat, crumbled 24-32 mini chocolate eggs Method > Slowly melt the chocolate, syrup, cocoa and butter together in a pan over simmering water or in a microwave on medium.
