Emergency

An emergency is an event requiring immediate attention. Without a remedial response to the situation, an emergency can have disastrous consequences. Trained professionals reacting quickly with honed and targeted skills can many times reverse the direction of an alarming entanglement. This is why emergency preparedness is such a critical factor and determinant for the outcome of any emergency.

Those who have the propensity and foresight not to panic, coupled with a willingness to immerse themselves fully as a participant in rescue efforts, can draw upon powers they were previously unaware of, and end up being heroes and saving lives. Examples are the firefighters, who on 11 September 2001 risked their lives to save their fellow countrymen from the catastrophic effects of a terrorist attack on U.S. soil. Another notable example of a heroic response to an emergency is the pilot Chesley Sullenberger who saved his crew and passengers from death when he had to make an emergency landing in the Hudson River shortly after takeoff.
