FAW Toyota Motor Sales Co, announced to cut the price of its Chinese-made Prius hybrid car by up to eight percent to help reverse flat sales, local Chinese newspaper Shanghai Daily reported. The newspaper said the second generation Prius hybrid now costs 259,800 yuan (US$36,500), compared with 282,200 yuan ($39,414) before.

FAW Group Corp, one of China’s third largest vehicle makers, said it sold 166,518 vehicles in January, a rise of 46.9% year-on-year. This surge in sales follows a general increase in vehicle sales in 2007 of 23.2%, as compared to 2006. It had an output of 1.47 million motor vehicles last year and sold 1.44 million.
