Georgia
Georgia has become a popular tag because it is the name of a country invaded by Russia in 2008. Georgia is also the name of a U.S. state.
The country of Georgia is located in southwest Asia, bordered by Turkey on the south, Russia on the north and the Black Sea on the west. The country became part of the Russian Empire in the 19th century and briefly was independent after the 1917 Russian Revolution. It was forcibly annexed to the U.S.S.R. in 1922 but again achieved independence after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. The 2008 conflict stemmed from a dispute over regions bordering Russia.
The state of Georgia is located in the southeastern United States, just north of Florida. It was the last of the original Thirteen Colonies established and also was the fourth state to secede from the Union and fight as a Confederate state in the Civil War. Its capital and largest city, Atlanta, was host to the 1996 Summer Olympics.
