I have been wanting to write this blog entry for many months now, but at the time of relevance things were a little crazy over here and there simply wasn’t the time. Well, by dint of fate, relevance has returned and there now is the time.

  Bearing Mohammed, the kufr ape spreads sedition in school. Seducing children from the way of the righteous. Toying with the offspring of the faithful. Tempting their small minds from the true path. Surely this is wickedness. Bear faced lies confuse the youth about our glorious dictatorship.

Gillian Gibbons’s recent imprisonment in Sudan led Albaqir A Mukhtar to ask if the Khartoum government is protecting Islam or defiling it The naming of a teddy bear after a pupil, and not after the Prophet of Islam, is for all intents and purposes a trivial matter. It does not constitute an insult of Islam, or a blasphemous act.

There's an old saying 'When in Rome...' something which I'm a firm believer of. One should always respect local laws when in another country, regardless of how crazy they seem. Its a well known fact that many Muslim countries have 'Draconian' laws, particularly regarding freedom of speech and blasphemy.

When Gillian Gibbons, a British teacher at the Unity high school in Khartoum, Sudan allowed her pupils to vote on the name of a teddy bear, she surely didn't anticipate a diplomatic incident and week-long dominance of the British news headlines. But that was the result of the choice of her second-grade class to name the toy Muhammad.

People all over the world have expressed shock and outrage over the sentencing of Gillian Gibbons, the British schoolteacher who was arrested for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Mohammed" in Sudan, to fifteen days in jail.

Since the beginning of the Darfur genocide in 2003, Hundreds of thousands of civilians have died from violence, disease, and starvation, and thousands of women have been raped. More than 2.5 million civilians have been driven from their homes, their villages torched and property stolen.

One question I have for the Muslim element that seems to get bent out of shape over the silliest of reason. Is your god so weak and your prophet so sensitive that they are concerned with the words and actions of mortal infidels? It is hard to believe that a supreme deity would really be offended by the people he created and would have the power to destroy.

For most in Western societies, the behavior of Muslim fundamentalists is often incomprehensible and, at the same time, terrifying, as illustrated by incidents which make news headlines. The most recent is that of Gillian Gibbons, a British teacher at a school for children of the Sudanese elite and foreign diplomats.
